One day in Bristol
Bristol, la ville du cidre et du graffeur Banksy nous a accueillie pour une journée de visite. Située au Sud-Ouest de l’Angleterre, c’est l’une des huit plus grosse ville du Royaume-Unis.
Construite sur le flan d’une colline, Bristol est toute en pentes et montées et domine la rivière Avon. Ceux qui vivent à Bristol sont fiers de leur ville, de son histoire, de ce qu’elle représente. Dans l’histoire de l’Angleterre, Bristol est la ville qui a refusé de se soumettre à l’heure universelle du méridien de Greenwich imposée par Londres, et qui avait donc son propre système horaire. De nombreux bâtiments, cathédrale, église, statues, bateaux anciens, témoignent du passé historique de la ville.
Le port de Bristol et ses docks ont longtemps contribué à sa richesse, certains bateaux en sont partis pour découvrir l’Amérique. Un fort lien artistique unis New-York et Bristol : les deux villes étaient rattachées par les bateaux qui voyageaient d’un port à l’autre. Du coup Bristol a développé une culture plutôt urbaine : musique trip-hop (Portishead et Massive Attack sont originaires de Bristol) et street-art font partis intégrante de l’identité de la ville (certaines rues du centre-ville sont couvertes de graffitis). Chaque année, de nombreux festivals de musique se déroulent à Bristol, et la “Balloon Fiesta”, célèbre lâché de montgolfières, vient clôturer l’été.

Bristol, City of cider and street artist Banksy has welcomed us for a day trip. Located in the southwest of England, is one of the eight largest city in the United Kingdom.
Built on the side of a hill, Bristol is all in ascents and slopes and overlooking the River Avon. Those who live in Bristol are proud of their city, its history, what it represents. In the history of England, Bristol is the city that has refused to submit to universal time meridian of Greenwich imposed by London, which had its own system time. Many buildings, cathedral, church, statues, ancient boats, reminders of its historic city.
Bristol harbor and docks have long contributed to its greatness, some boats have left to discover America. A strong artistic connection united New York and Bristol: the two cities were connected by boats traveling from one port to another. So Bristol has developed a culture rather urban music trip-hop (Portishead and Massive Attack are from Bristol) and street art are part and parcel of the identity of the city (some downtown streets are covered with graffiti). Each year many music festivals take place in Bristol, and the “Balloon Fiesta”, famous dropped from hot-air balloons, mark the end of the summer.
